The History of the facilities of St Mary Bourne





The Lake    by a deed  of gift from Dr Evans to the Parish Council in 1990

The Surgery  was built in 1953  but is not in public ownership

The Recreation Ground was bequeathed to the Parish in the will of 6th Earl of Portsmouth, given by Beatrice Countess of Portsmouth and accepted by the Parish Council on Aug 1st in 1919.

The Pavilion was built in 1930 by voluntary labour.

Stevens Green land belonged to the Pond family and was probably sold, rather than given, to the village for housing in 1947.

Hirst Copse  Joe Hirst Senior gave the land for this development in 1992.

The Village Hall  and the Club Room  land was bought by the Parish in 1952.  The Hall was built by local labour and opened 1955.  The funds for the new Hall (1992) were raised by the Parish.

Bowling Club was originally on the Recreation Ground in 1930's.  The new club was built on land sold to the PC  by Adrian Bell.

The Stoke Playground land was given to the Parish by Mrs Bertine Hay in 1960.

The Churchyard Extension land was given by Joe Hirst Senior in 1990.

Village Shop on Parish Council land, built by funds raised by the Parish and with grants in  2001

Multi Use Games Area on Parish Council land, built by funds raised by the Parish and with grants in 2004
